A week in Morzine

This year was the year I decided to face organising my unorganisable family to go skiing. Having not been since a child, I was genuinely craving the white snow and despite everything I love in Dubai – my god do I miss fresh air! The big question was how do you even start to organise a trip for *potentially* (no-one likes to commit) 3 couples plus your dad to go skiing without having any clue of the best spots or slopes.

We knew a few things that were uncompromisable:

1) We wanted a catered chalet. I adore cooking and experimenting but I was not willing to face this lot every morning and night on my holiday!

2) A ski-in Chalet. I’m really not being a princess here but the thought of buses and carrying skis after a long day skiing was not on my list of things to do!

3) Something that was a good size, cozy, relatively modern and simply well put together. I saw so many run down chalets maxing our budget when initially looking I really thought it was going to be a tall ask.

And so (through a lucky recommendation) we landed ourselves at the stunning Morgan Jupe’s chalet: Chalet de mes Rêves. I feel compelled to write up on this incredible chalet because I have never been so amazed at service, quality and value for money. It’s a place will be re-visiting every year without fail and I could not sing its praises more.

The first night we arrived, we were greeted with a glass of champagne, canapes and an open-wood burning fireplace, MORE than ideal. An hour later, the ski hire company had already been arranged to come to the chalet with a selection of skis, boots, helmets etc for us to try on there and then and we could just as easily request for any changes. This was simply the start of what was the most elegantly run skiing trip I have been on. It meant that we were able to (with perfectly fitting boots) hit the slopes early the next morning without any troubles. Excuse the comfort clothes but that’s what you want in front of a log fire!

Morgan Jupe also have their own driver dedicated to your group (with an slick 4×4) to pick up and drop you off every morning at whichever time you like to wherever you like! Similarly, you will then be collected up at your request even if it’s not the full party. We had a few occasions when just a few of us fancied heading back to the chalet to enjoy the hot fire and jacuzzi with a glass of bubbly! Nothing is a trouble or inconvenience here. The chalet is of course ski-in so it’s just as easy to do this but a few days we wanted to venture out onto different pistes which meant being picked up was a dream.

Food and local restaurants

One of my real loves and actually the source of great excitement for the trip was the lunches on the slopes. There is nothing that beats coming in from a chilly and intense morning skiing to a warming and bustling French restaurant! The food is just divine and I can tell you the price of a glass of red wine is FAR cheaper than anything one gets in Dubai. The atmosphere and happiness that buzzes through these restaurants is utterly catching and intoxicating. We went to a few spots but here are my favourites and if you go to this chalet or area, I highly recommend them! They are Le Vaffieu, Le Pointe de Nyon and Le Terrace. The girls at the chalet will book your week up as you please with the best restaurants and recommendations so again this is something we didn’t need to worry about.

On the subject of food…the catered experience we enjoyed at Chalet de mes Rêves was second to none. A cooked morning breakfast of your choosing kept me eating clean and balanced for the week but the dinners…WOW. A specially designed 3 course menu every night paired with exclusive (and unlimited) wines for each course. It was honestly something out of a fairy book. The food was exquisite plate after plate and the attention to detail of each guest’s preferences couldn’t be bettered. If you had space after desert, then cheese boards and unique tea blends were always on offer. Every single night, it was truly a fine-dining experience and one that was met with a warm and homely atmosphere. It’s also worth mentioning the incredible afternoon teas that are waiting for you every day with home-baked brownies, cookies, cupcakes, you name it! I feel compelled to say this was one thing I chose to stay away from as part of my clean living and balanced lifestyle. You get plenty of treats throughout lunches and dinner to indulge but for anyone who wants it – it’s there!

Here is just a glimpse into what you can expect from dining at Chalet de mes Rêves;

1) Pan roast veal fillet with mushroom Duxelles, pomme purée, pancetta crisp, peas and a white wine, shallot and dijon sauce.

2) Poached egg on a marmite muffin

3) Pan seared scallops with pea purée and chorizo oil.

4) Cheese selection

Chalet de mes Rêves can comfortably sleep eight guests in four double bedrooms and one single bedroom. I would highly recommend it to a family or group of friends who are looking for a hassle-free and extremely memorable trip. The outdoor hot tub is a great addition overlooking the mountains and it’s always bubbling hot ready to dive in. Every detail and thought that has gone into, not only the chalet, but the experience for guests is truly impressive and commendable. Furthermore the price that comes with this incredible trip is the definition of good value, anyone would be hard pushed to beat what is on offer.

Thank you Morgan Jupe for a truly remarkable week, we will be seeing you next year.
