In the last few months I have developed a serious love for the combination of granola and yoghurt as a snack. I know it’s not a new thing but it’s never really been a go-to for me as an afternoon pick-me-up. Given the fact my dad never ate sweets (you may have read my organic hot-chocolate stories), he always ate greek yoghurt and honey for his sweet treat. Following in daddy’s footsteps as little girls do, it’s safe to say 5 years of yoghurt and honey got a little boring for me! I have a bowl of granola with milk for the occasional breakfast but I didn’t really see it as much else, until I did :)
There’s nothing quite like a sweet but deliciously healthy homemade bowl of granola, at any time of the day! The best part about it is you know exactly what’s in the granola and where it’s come from, that’s why although I LOVE eating out – it can never quite beat the love and care that goes into home-cooking. There are plenty of ‘healthy’ granolas you can buy from the store but to be completely honest, there’s only a few brands I actually trust and define as ‘healthy’. Honey is a natural sugar and therefore classed as ‘good for us’; which it is in the right quantities. But a lot of the packaged granolas have copious amount of honey lathered all over it which your body is not going to love waking up to!
Buckwheat is crunchy and sweet and adds a lovely nutty texture to the granola. The apple and cinnamon is somewhat subtle but gives the granola that punch it needs to lift it and really make it a morning…or snack treat! Buckwheat is also gluten free so the whole breakfast is refined-sugar free, gluten-free and dairy-free (depending on what you partner it with!). I’m a huge milk fan, normal, almond and everything else and it goes great with it but on this occasion, greek yoghurt did me perfectly! Remember to tag me in your creations!
