On Tuesday this week, it was exactly two months to go until the big day. My god, how time has flown by! Not only is this year going crazy quick but I think the next 7/8 weeks are going to rocket past – I hope I can try to slow it all down a little to make sure I’m able to enjoy the journey!
When I was in the UK last week, I was driving in the car with my mother, talking about what needs to be sorted for the wedding and she turned around and asked me this question.
She said;
“In a strange way, are you looking forward to having all of this over with?”.
Can you believe, I even hesitated momentarily before answering.
From that moment, I swore to make sure that the next few weeks are bliss. They are full of nothing but excitement, joy and anticipation as they should be. I can understand why she asked the question – from an outside perspective, a wedding can at times only spell effort and money, but if we didn’t spend, and didn’t fuss over one of the most important days of our lives, what’s the point of working for that money in the first place!
Right now, the wedding feels more real than ever. I have two hen dos (following Jack’s lead), with one being in Dubai and one with my UK best friends to be had in Dublin just two weeks before the big day.
Side note: Hen do’s kind of put a spanner in the works when it comes to being ultra healthy in the lead up to the wedding!
So what have we been doing?!
Ring shopping!
We went to the same place that Jack bought my engagement ring from a month or so ago to get the bands. I’m not sure if it’s custom that the partner surprises the other with the wedding band but we chose to go shopping together, I guess it’s one less thing that you need to worry about!
Jewellery hunting
So turns out we’re not the best at surprises, but to be honest I think the day will have enough in store to not worry about that. We’ve both been looking for a new watch and what better than two pieces from a His&Her collection. J has always gone for the simple face, brown strap style so alas it was time for a change.
I’m absolutely in love with our new Gc Watches, an early wedding gift to each other, because why not! (I refuse to be that couple who have matching everything but watches I can do!).
Do we like them?
Venue sightings
My father was yet to see the venue before last week and it was one of the reasons I was excited to come home, I think there’s a little girl in everyones hearts that wants their dad to be just as excited as they are. He was a real trooper. He pointed out everything only a man would point out (which to be honest I am thankful for as some bits I would never have clocked), except maybe a few. Since the ceremony is outside, I will be walking on grass, in dress, and my stunning new valentinos. I hadn’t thought it to be a problem until he pointed out that I absolutely must have it trimmed before the day.
You can imagine the rouge on my cheeks when I received an email response from the polite ground staff saying they would make sure they’d pay extra attention on ‘that brides day’. A slight Bridezilla moment I must admit.
The order of play
One discussion that did arise that day was the order in which the bride, bridesmaids, flower girls and groomsmen walk down the aisle. I was convinced it was bridesmaid hand in hand with a groomsmen, but apparently not. I guess truth is, we can have it whichever way we like and these are the things I promise to be excited about choosing and tuning to our wedding day, rather than getting worried about ‘right and wrong’.
Timings
I’m back in Dubai for the month of July and then it’s the UK right up until the wedding at the end of August. It’s now all the little things to sort like table decorations, mason jars, gifts for the wedding party, schedule of the day, seating plan (that’s going to be interesting!), hair, make up etc etc!
I cannot wait for what the next few weeks has to bring! If any wives or bride-to-be’s have advice in the lead up to the big day, please do share, would love to hear from you!

September 2, 2016Hi Katie!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I have just done a wedding blog post so please do take a look. There will be much more detailed ones when I get pictures of my cake, flowers etc but put up what I have for now :)
The sloe gin bottles worked great, they were actually a present from some of our guests but I believe they were bought from http://www.miniatureglassbottles.co.uk and then the sloe gin was bought from Norfolk. We doubled them up as place card holders which looked super cute! Huge congrats on your engagement, I hope your run up to wedding planning is breezy! I am posting some more wedding stuff on the blog and have written a few for http://www.savoirflair.com so take a look there too :)
Thanks for the support! Carly xx
