Gordon Ramsay’s BSK

Happy Sunday beautiful people! Sorry I’ve been a little MIA on the blog over the last week, it seems the world returned from holiday in September and all things were a-go!

I’m feeling a little nostalgic today given my Sunday is not full of family fun, laughter, and a killer Sunday roast lunch, but rather a lot of work on my lonesome and catching up on emails. I bought a new camera this week pre-honeymoon, as I’m starting to do You Tube videos (when I figure out how to upload the videos, the first one will be up!), and it seems learning a new piece of equipment is really not my forte. Alas I have 5 days to work out how to shoot killer travel and personal videos otherwise present to moi (which I sold to Jack as an essential honeymoon gift) isn’t going to get much use!

But before technology learning commences, I thought it was the perfect time to satiate over an amazing dinner I had last week at, in my opinion, the best British inspired restaurant in Dubai. If you like Beef Wellington, buckle up!

Dubai’s a place that you can chose from a million and one cuisines and a multitude of the world’s top chain restaurants; so when there’s one that promotes authentic, classic and well-delivered British cuisine (with a few twists along the way), it’s hard to turn your head. Bread Street Kitchen is one of Gordon Ramsay’s masterminds, also in London (St Pauls) and in Dubai, it nestles in the well-known Atlantis hotel.

I went with J in the hope of discovering a new local favourite … that we did!

Olive dipping bread advice: Give it a miss if Beef Wellington is on the cards for main course – you’ll need the room! (Plus not the warm, crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, type bread you might hope for).

Starters were amazing and not what you would find on a classic British-inspired menu. I really loved that about BSK, it’s unique whilst still offering the food you know and love. Given Asian is one of my much loved cuisines, I thoroughly enjoyed getting the best of both worlds, with fusion food to start (and a ground-breakingly good pizzetta) followed by the English main course of all main courses.

^I mean, talk about heaven!^ The Ricotta and salsa verde Pizzetta is well worth a try and is a nice indulgence alongside the healthy fish starters.

Spicy tuna tartare with wonton crisps. Very similar to Catch’s ‘Tartare Trio‘ which has got to be up there with superstar dishes of mine in Dubai. Fresh and utterly moreish!

Samon tartare with a wonderfully creamy avocado puree and then the highlight of the starters – the spiced prawns!

And when I say spiced, I mean spiced to absolute perfection, and huge too! A subtle sweetness with a heat that slowly develops in your mouth, still allowing you to enjoy every other bite without it being too overpowering. World class!

And then, there’s this…

I’ll allow us all to have a moment of silence of appreciation.

Beef Wellington at it’s very finest.

Before we dive in; it’s not just this quality of food that has made me fall in love with BSK, it’s everything from the atmosphere to the waiters and the attentiveness of the managers. You’d struggle to not see the helpfulness of each of the restaurant managers with them stopping to subtly top up a wine glass running dry (and not in the ‘let’s get you to take another bottle’ type of way). Our waiter knew exactely where the individual componenents of the dishes came from and didn’t fall short when I quizzed (genuinely intrigued) about the origin of the salmon, tuna and prawns (tracking down good quality tuna in Dubai is not an easy task!).

It does have a family feel so if you’re completely anti kids being present when dining, then possibly BSK isn’t your first choice … but in the midst of a lively restaurant, we managed to have a romantic dinner that was interrupted by nothing except sensational food.

Truffle mash, honey roasted carrots, hand-cut chips and the crispiest buttery pastry surrounding perfectly cooked beef. I mean … any day!

Just like the cat who got the cream!

Although it’s very unlikely you’d have room for more if you followed our meal, they do have the ultimate pick’n’mix section to chose from, be it alone or with ice-cream!
