Last week was the start of what can only be described as the most breathtaking adventure I’ve been on. One week, 3 islands, 3 hotels and 3 completely different experiences that I won’t be forgetting. The Maldives consists of roughly 1200 beautiful Islands, playing home to a series of tropical mini-paradises to explore. Dolphins, sharks, rays and turtles are just a fraction of the natural sea-world to be discovered. I’ve dubbed it my “engagemoon,” which I know isn’t a thing…but who’s up for creating some new traditions!?
Amilla Fushi was the first of the islands we visited. It’s a 40 minute sea plane journey from Male airport, the capital, and an adventure in itself; I’ve never been on a sea plane and although I’m a confident flyer, it does take your breath away being hauled up by what looks like a toy!
A little advice…wear cool clothing! The plane has a few small fans but it can get pretty warm.
After ‘sea-ing’ some pretty incredible views, we landed on the water at the dock where we were collected and taken to the island.
My trip to Amilla Fushi had a very exciting purpose; to try out their newly launched Wellness Treehouse experience. It’s an amazing concept they’ve created comprising of a specially designed menu to detox and cleanse your body, combined with daily fitness, therapeutic, and spa treatments. The resort is a baby compared to many of the other islands having only started 1 year ago but you wouldn’t think it. They have the first fish and chip restaurant ever to be opened in the Maldives (and we’re not talking your local chippy here!) as well as a beautiful overwater restaurant and bar, games room, coffee shop, extensive wine cellar and cheese room as well as lots of other restaurant choices.
For me this is the ultimate balance destination. Somewhere you can come to be healthy and active but indulge and relax at the same time.
We headed straight for our breathtaking treehouse which really was something out of a fairy tale!
It was equipped with everything the wellness package has to offer. Daily deliveries of healthy nuts, seeds, veg, dips and freshly made juices!
Lunch came shortly after, all from the wellness menu which we had on the balcony. What a start!
The wellness programme consists of two ‘active’ classes a day which you can do on the privacy of your treehouse balcony. It’s so pretty with natural coconut trees all around and a few bird songs for some background music.
There’s a TRX set up and their fitness trainer, Ali, is AH-mazing! Excuse my oh-so-attractive “I’m going to punch this as hard as I can” face.
Jack got involved too…
Breakfast after a sweaty morning workout. Your world is pretty much your oyster when it comes to breakfast at Amilla. Spirulina smoothies, a hundred types of milk and the freshest of fruit!
My coconut yogurt…so rich and creamy!
Chia seeds and homemade toasted granola and shakshouka for my hungry man! If you want to make your own shakshouka then take a look at my healthy version here.
We went to check out a few of the other rooms that Amilla offer…if you fancy more of a sea vibe then their Reef Houses are gorgeous!
You can dip straight into the ocean from your room.
I’ve recently just got my Open Water diving qualification but given you can’t fly within 24 hours of diving, it was a set of snorkels and a swim around their picturesque jetty for the afternoon! Don’t worry about bringing snorkels with you, all the resorts I went to in the Maldives offer them complimentary.
We ended up discovering a new spot around the other side of the island for snorkelling. J was super excited after spotting a baby blacktip shark nearby (me not so much) but we saw turtles and amazing colourful fish so well worth it!
How cute is he!
The great thing about the Wellness Treehouse experience is that you can have the wellness menu in any of their restaurants. It wasn’t the easiest sitting in their cute fish and chip restaurant with fresh scampi and fish on the menu and not diving in, but it was picturesque to say the least!
With make-your-own-salad options, starters, mains and dessert galore, it isn’t hard to stick the menu for the week. Every detail is so carefully thought out, from toasted garlic to sensational dressings!
I got a little busy with my beetroot and chicken salad but it’s hard not to when the choices are so good!
If I get chance to visit again I will be trying Amilla’s renowned cheese and wine night. How stunning is this room! #HomeGoals
Three amazing nights and then we set off for Anantara Veli on the other side of the Maldives. This beautiful resort truly redefines modern luxury.
Just one more thing…be careful of the sun! I think J suits red, don’t you!?
Everything at Amilla is thought out, unique and beautiful. You can expect a 5* service all-round but it does come with a matching price tag.
